Lord Sandwich: Gourmet Sandwiches, Pizzas, and Salads in Seoul
A short distance away from the main streets filled with fast food, a gray concrete building stands located at the east gate of Yonsei University, where luxury vehicles maneuver their way through the narrow streets of Sinchon to get some gourmet sandwiches. Lord Sandwich offers a small variety of sandwiches that are served on their daily homemade Ciabatta bread. Upon walking in, the small ordering space and kitchen make you forget about the edgy modern exterior of the building, but once you order and make your way upstairs to the main seating area, the classical music and interior decor immediately brings you to a meal at an art gallery. Up on the concrete walls are painted portraits of people I can’t name.
Lord Sandwich has a relatively simple menu with soup, salad, pizza, sandwiches, and café beverages. If it is your first time and you are struggling to make a decision, their best sandwiches are marked. Don’t let the price scare you away from a delicious and filling meal! Sandwiches range from 8,000 – 15,000 won and Pizzas 14,000 – 16,000 won. The pizzas are the most expensive item on the menu so it’s safe to assume that all else falls to 10,000 won and lower.
All of the sandwiches are accompanied by the house salad. The greens in the salad are very bitter, but Lord Sandwich has a special salad dressing that makes you want more of the bitter greens just for the dressing. There’s a hint of lemon and other yummy things I can’t identify that create the perfect blend.
The sandwich itself is very filling. If you make your way to Lord Sandwich with a party of two, to maximize your experience, I suggest ordering one sandwich and one pizza to share. I tried the Quattro Formaggio Pizza, a four cheese pizza that is served with honey garlic on the side. I thought the honey garlic contained bacon bits at first but I was pleasantly surprised to taste the crunchy candied garlic. It helped balance out the cheesiness of the pizza. Lord Sandwich is also a very vegetarian friendly restaurant with equal selections of vegetarian sandwiches so there’s really no reason not to go~
